The Region

Maggie's Bays and Beaches.

There are more than 20 bays and beaches around Magnetic Island, each one with its own unique appeal. You will never feel crowded and it is not unusual to have a beach to yourself.

Picnic Bay

There is swimming enclosure for safe swimming. Take a stroll along the jetty or relax in the beachfront gardens with a picnic lunch.

Rocky Bay

A secluded beach reached from a track.

Nelly Bay

A great place to go for that early morning run or a leisurely walk. Good for swimming or snorkeling on the fringing reef. There is a children's playground at the northern end.

Geoffrey Bay

At dusk rock wallabies can be seen feeding on the rocks. This is a Marine National Park zone, so sorry no fishing or collecting.

Alma Bay

A lovely swimming spot, with life savers on the week ends. There are public barbecues, picnic tables, toilets and shaded areas for all.

Arthur Bay

Some of the best snorkeling is found here. On the right side of the bay are interesting caves which protect a large variety of reef fish.

Florence Bay

Is considered very beautiful by visitors and locals. There is coral on the right hand side of the bay along the rocks and a coral bomey in the center of the bay.

Radical Bay

Peaceful and sheltered, Radical bay is a great beach.

Balding Bay

Only reached by sea or walking track. So its very secluded.

Horseshoe Bay

This is the largest bay on the island and hosts a number of water sports. From July to September Humpback whales have been spotted here by lucky people out in boats and kayaks.

For the leisurely minded there is sunbathing, feeding the lorikeet birds, collecting shells and browsing through the interesting shops and art galleries.

Some of the best cafes and restaurants are also located here.
